With this chapter I will give a general overview of Power BI, Power Query and most importantly the key components of a typical modern business intelligence solution.
With this chapter I will give a general overview of Power BI, Power Query and most importantly the key components of a typical modern business intelligence solution.
In this chapter we will build the automated data preparation process for the demo sales dataset with Power Query. We will first connect Power BI with the Excel-file containing the demo data. Following that, we will first prepare the dimension tables and then the fact tables step-by-step. At the end of this chapter, we will tidy up Power Query and load the data tables to the data model.
In the previous chapter we have created the automated data preparation process in Power Query. We finally loaded the prepared data tables to Power BI. In this chapter we will build the data model and adjust some of its properties such that we are ready to build visualizations and dashboards.
We have so far created the automated data preparation process with Power Query and loaded the prepared data tables to the data model. Then we built the table relationships between the dimension and fact tables and configured different data model settings. Given that, we are now in the position and ready to start creating visualizations and custom calculations, i.e. measures with DAX.
